Karla’s Specialteas was created out of a love for natural health and wellness. Her business reflects her passion for herbalism and aromatherapy, and most of all...a love of high-quality loose leaf teas!

May 2021 will mark the 10-Year Anniversary of Karla’s Specialteas! Not only has Karla made a name for herself in the tea industry, but also in many household tea pantries across BC, Canada and beyond. Karla is celebrating this huge achievement and looking forward to new exciting possibilities in the years to come!

As a community minded business owner, Karla has forged many valuable connections over the last 10 years, and has the most amazing dedicated and loyal customer base. This has helped her reach many business milestones, carried her through the adversity of the downtown fire that left her new shop with extensive damage and product loss, as well navigating the Covid 19 pandemic as a small business owner. Karla is undeniably grateful for the love and assistance of other local businesses and customers that have rallied around and supported her during these challenging times.

Karla and her partner Mike moved to Mission from East Vancouver in 2003. She fell in love with the endless mountains, lakes and the beautiful outdoors, but it was the small community vibe that made her decision an easy one. After starting a family, she found it was the perfect time to focus on something she was truly passionate about.

Karla is not only a Certified Tea Sommelier but a Registered Aromatherapist with an emphasis in Herbalism. Passionate about helping people, and caring for the environment, she uses natural, pure ingredients and honours plants used for thousands of years. She grows and Wildcraft harvests many herbs and flowers for the teas and also works with different local organic producers. Her extensive training and experience in the tea industry, her knowledge of essential oils, use of botanicals, and lifelong love of tea sets her gourmet artisan blends apart in quality and flavour. Organic and natural, the teas are free from artificial flavours, colours, sweeteners and GMO’s, also gluten free and kosher!

Karla’s charming tea shop is filled with an array of delicious loose leaf teas, medicinal tea blends, accessories and more! You can also purchase refills for your tin and bulk bags at great savings. Her teas can be enjoyed at some of your favourite local cafes like The Penny and The Blackberry Kitchen, or purchase to take home or gift at Pressland General, Meridian Market, Fruits & Greens, Lepp Farm Market, Apostrophie and Evoke Wellness.

To purchase directly, visit Karla’s Specialteas Tea Shop located in the little open- air mall between Magnolia’s Flowers and Bee Thai! Follow her social media accounts, or visit her website for hours, updates and Covid protocols.

The B.C. Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries is investing an additional $ 50,000 into the Fraser Valley Artisans Food Hub to purchase additional technology to support access to the shared-use training kitchen and facilities. This investment is in addition to the $750,000 previously announced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries to purchase equipment and cover other start-up costs for the Fraser Valley Artisans Food Hub.
Stephen Evans, Executive Director of Mission Community Skills Centre Society. stated, “the Food Hub will help small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) access food related business planning and training services, including resources to help connect with nutrition, traceability, and local small business financing. Information related to packing options, product development, social media, resource lists for equipment suppliers, distribution and grants and contributions for ag-food SMEs will also be available. Foodies can also use a shared-use tasting kitchen to increase their product development and better commercialize their business concepts.
Mission Community Skills Centre Society is also pleased to announce the formation of a separate legal entity called, the Fraser Valley Artisans Food Hub Inc. Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries and the District of Mission, the Fraser Valley Artisans Food Hub Inc. is an important opportunity for local “foodies”, including Chiefs, those involved in the food industry.
“The Fraser Valley is a significant agricultural region in our province with farms of all sizes growing, raising and harvesting food for British Columbians,” said Lana Popham, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries. “We’re excited to be supporting the new Fraser Valley Food Hub which will help more farmers and food producers add value to their products, leading to a more resilient food system in B.C.”
Participants within the local food hub network can become owner/operators, users, and/or service providers of the Regional Food Hub. “If you wish to be a part of something new and exciting within the Fraser Valley food scene, please feel free to connect directly with the Fraser Valley Artisans Food Hub Inc.”, said Josie Van Patter, Food Hub Manager.
