Jim Cuddy has one of the most recognizable voices in Canadian music thanks to omnipresent hits such as “Try”, “5 Days In May” and “Bad Timing”.  Between Blue Rodeo projects, Jim released his first solo album “All In Time” (1998) and hit the road with the eponymous Jim Cuddy Band.  Since that first release he has recorded three more solo albums; “The Light That Guides You Home” (2006), “Skyscraper Soul” (2011) and “Constellation” (2018).

Jim’s latest release, “Countrywide Soul”, is a celebration of music and the musicians who join him on stage each night.  To achieve his goal on “Countrywide Soul”, Jim re-worked a number of songs previously recorded for his solo career and with Blue Rodeo.  To round out the record, he wrote two new songs and included a couple of favourite cover songs.  Tracks include “Rhinestone Cowboy”, “Back Here Again”, “All In Time”, “Glorious Day”, “The Light That Guides You Home” and “Everybody Cries”.

As a group Blue Rodeo has sold over 5 million records world-wide, won countless JUNO Awards, been inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, received a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame and Jim (along with songwriting partner Greg Keelor) was invested as Officers of the Order of Canada.

The Art of Murder, in time for the Halloween Spirit

Thursday isn't the usual day for an opening night at Opening Nite Theatre Society, but this year ONTS's season opener, Art of Murder, starts up with a two-for-one night on Thursday, October 17. Art of Murder is a short but fast-paced thriller that will be sure to get audiences in the Halloween spirit.

Jack and Annie Brooks are both artists. Jack is high-profile, charismatic, talented and a bona-fide art star. Annie stays in and paints quietly, getting none of the admiration and accolades that are showered upon her husband. Jack, played by Glenn Lahey with chilling ferocity, is a whirlwind of ego and entitlement, and he takes what he wants. Does this mean he'd kill? Paula Zentner plays Annie with a cold and calculating subtlety. She's been under Jack's thumb for so long, will she kill to get out from under it? Into this powerful dynamic enter two more characters- the flamboyant and money-hungry art dealer V, played to full volume by Kat Sloan, and Kate, an under-appreciated and harassed maid played by Petra Atebe. Both have so much to lose and to gain by eliminating Jack and Annie... so the question is, who will die? Who will kill? Or are they all empty talk? And why is there a coffin in the middle of the living room?

After taking home the trophy for directing last spring for Age of Arousal, Norma Rushton returns to the director's chair this fall. This small ensemble cast has been working since August to bring audiences a fast, tight romp. Familiar ONTS faces mix with newcomers this fall for a great show.

Tickets are on sale now, available at www.openingnitetheatre.com/box-office, [email protected], 604-826-ONTS or at the door at 33223 Railway Ave in Mission. The show runs October 17 to November 3, Thursday, Friday and Saturday shows at 8pm, Sunday shows at 2pm. The doors open one hour before the show. There is no show on Halloween. Tickets are $15, and Thursdays (October 17 and 24) the tickets are two-for-one.
