Building upon past efforts, the Mission Cultural Resources Commission has made a concerted effort since 2016 to cultivate participation in Culture Days and make it into a major annual event in the community. Every year, the Commission establishes a task group to organize the celebrations. Through their extraordinary efforts and the extensive support of Mission's vibrant arts and culture community, along with local businesses, Culture Days celebrations have grown substantially. Their success was even noted nationally, having made the national Top Ten list in 2017 and 2018, and placing 5th overall in Canada for the number of activities held during Culture Days for cities with a population under 50,000.

The Culture Days weekend is set to take place across Canada this year on September 27, 28, and 29, 2019. In BC, up to 600 free activities are presented across the province each year, inviting the public behind the scenes to connect with creative people in their community and discover new arts and cultural practices. Artists and cultural groups interested in presenting a free activity during Culture Days are invited to register online starting next month at CultureDays.ca. For inclusion in the BC Culture Days marketing and publicity campaign, participants must register before July 31, 2019.

CRASH TEST DUMMIESreunite for “God Shuffled His Feet” 25th anniversary tour. Each date will feature a full performance of the album, plus other staples from the band's catalog.

“God Shuffled His Feet” (1993) was the band’s sophomore album. It launched them to international fame. The album’s lead single “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm” peaked at #4 in the US Hot 100. The track hit #2 in the United Kingdomand peaked at #1 in Australia. The songs “Swimming In Your Ocean” and “Afternoons & Coffeespoons” landed in the Top Ten in Canada. With the added strength of the title Top 20single “God Shuffled His Feet”, the album achieved Triple Platinumstatus. The album also garnered three Grammy Award nominations(1994) forBest New Artist, Best Pop Performance by A Duo or Group(“Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm”) and Best Alternative Music Performance(“God Shuffled His Feet”).

The origin of the CRASH TEST DUMMIESis tied to the Winnipeg nightspots, the Spectrum Cabaret and the Blue Note Café. The band began its rise to success with the debut album “The Ghosts that Haunt Me” (1991), due in large part, to the popularity of the hit single “Superman's Song”, which appeared on the RPM Top Singles chart and earned the band the Juno Award for Group of the Year(1992). In addition to the win they were nominated for seven other Juno Awards between 1992 and 1996.

After touring the world for their last album eight years ago, CRASH TEST DUMMIESagreed they were done. “Everyone was ready to move on in their lives.” Recently, however, Roberts has penned some of his most provocative lyrics ever. “I sat down one night after having written nothing in literally years, and out came a verse--of sorts. I was rusty! But I stuck with it for a few more days, until I managed to make it to say what I wanted to say. Things grew organically from there. And here we are again!”
