WHAT’S ON! MISSION IN THE COMMUNITY

Getting Ready for OPEN HOUSE Day

9/18/2024

When you’re selling your property, hosting an Open House will provide an excellent opportunity to attract buyers. Ideally, people will see your property that day and decide to make an offer. That would be exciting!

So, what can you do to prepare for the day? Here are a few suggestions:
  1. Make sure the entire house is clean and tidy. Think of making it “guest ready.”
  2. Plan to leave early and come back late. Recognize that people may not arrive nor leave precisely on time.
  3. If possible, remove pets. Take them to a friend’s house or pet daycare.
  4. If you’re concerned about valuables (such as jewelry), lock them somewhere safe. For example, you can hide them in the trunk of your car.
  5. Avoid cooking the morning of an Open House. The odours may linger.
  6. Provide ample space by the front entrance for shoes and boots.
  7. If possible, avoid having any deliveries that day.
  8. Make sure interior doors are unlocked, including the door to the garage.
  9. Enhance curb appeal: First impressions start before potential buyers even enter the house. Make sure the exterior of your property is well-maintained. Consider adding fresh coats of paint to the front door and trim, mowing the lawn, trimming bushes, and planting flowers to create an inviting entrance.
  10. Create a welcoming ambiance: Light plays a significant role in setting the mood. Open curtains and blinds to let in natural light, and consider adding extra lighting in darker areas to make the space feel bright and inviting. Additionally, you can add subtle toucheslike fresh flowers and soft background music to create a cozy atmosphere that potential buyers will remember.

Finally, resist the urge to “drop by” and see how things are going. Instead, take the time to do something enjoyable, such as an outing to the park or mall.

Talk about a swing for a cause! Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation (FVHCF), powered by their amazing Presenting Sponsor, RBC Wealth Management Dominion Securities, hosted the much-anticipated 9th Annual Golfing Fore Your Hospitals Tournament at the beautiful Sandpiper Golf Course. And guess what? The event raised over a $100,000 in support of our local Eastern Fraser Valley Regional Hospitals!

“This year’s tournament was our biggest yet! With 204 golfers hitting the green in our sold-out event, it was truly a day to remember,” said a delighted Leslie Gmur, Fund Development Coordinator for FVHCF. “The weather was perfect, the energy was high, and we’re already counting down the days until next year’s event on September 5, 2025! Mark your calendars – you won’t want to miss the big 10th Annual Tournament!”

But it's not just about fun in the sun. These incredible funds will go toward purchasing essential equipment for hospitals in Abbotsford, Mission, Chilliwack, and Hope, according to Liz Harris, Executive Director of FVHCF. “Thanks to everyone’s dedication and continued support over the past nine years, this tournament has blossomed into something truly special. We’re beyond excited for what’s to come.”

“We couldn’t have done it without all of you, and we’re already looking forward to teeing off again next year! Together, we’re making a lasting impact on the health care system in our community – one swing at a time,” said Harris.
Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation is committed to raising funds for essential medical equipment and programs across the region, serving the wonderful communities of Abbotsford, Mission, Chilliwack, Hope, Agassiz, and Harrison Hot Springs. He ran 5,373 km across Canada before his journey was cut short by the return of his illness. His legacy lives on through the Terry Fox Foundation and the annual Terry Fox Run, which continue to support cancer research and inspire millions.

Modo Live & Shaggypup Productions, the exclusive Canadian producers of “Menopause The Musical” are teaming up together, to bring the smash hit back to British Columbia for a 9 city tour, beginning September 29th in Cranbrook and ending Oct. 11th in Victoria. This is their first BC tour since the Spring of 2022 when pandemic lock downs were finally lifted.

“Menopause The Musical is a worldwide phenomenon because it’s so brilliantly funny, but at its core, it’s really about female empowerment” says Zimmerman.

The show illustrates through comedy and 27 hit songs from the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s, that underneath it all, women are so similar, especially around the “Change of Life” and there’s a need to embrace it with one another as “a  giant sisterhood”.

Since its debut in 2005, Menopause The Musical® has evolved into a "grassroots movement” for women, dealing with life’s so called “adjustments” like the aging process, especially after “40”.

This laugh-filled 90-minute production, gets audiences out of their seats, cheering, dancing & singing along to chart topping hits, that feature new, tongue in cheek, brilliantly funny lyrics.

Menopause The Musical®, now in its 19th year, is recognized as the longest-running “musical, comedy” to ever play Las Vegas continuously.

The original Off-Broadway musical comedy is set in a department store, where four women meet by chance while shopping for a black lace bra. After noticing unmistakable similarities with one another, the female, All-Star Canadian cast, jokes about their woeful hot flashes, mood swings, wrinkles, weight gain, memory loss, too much sex, not enough sex and more.  These 4 women form a sisterhood and a special bond with audiences as they rejoice in celebrating that Menopause is not “The Silent Passage” anymore!

Show Schedule:  Mission, Monday October 7th @ 7:30pm - The Clarke Theatre: Tickets $39.99 to $69.99
